A relatively new Canadian sport, ringette was first played in 1963. Ringette athletes have the opportunity to compete at the World Ringette Championships, as well as, elite-level competitions within the domestic National Ringette League.
Ringette joined the Canada Winter Games program for the 1991 Games in PEI, and has remained on the program ever since. Notable alumni include Jennifer Botterill, Jamie Bell, and Dailyn Bell.
