Quidi Vidi Lake

In 1762 the French constructed Quidi Vidi Battery. When the French left it became part of the system of batteries defending St John's. Fast forward 200 years, a reconstruction of this site opened in 1967 and was designated the province's first Historic Site in 1974.

During the summer, rowers prepare for the Royal St. John's Regatta, held here annually in August since 1816, making it the oldest organized sporting event in North America. Regatta Day is probably the only municipal holiday in Canada that is dependent on the weather. If it is raining or too windy, the holiday is simply postponed until the next suitable day.

2025 Games Capital Construction: 

Racecourse buoy system as per CKC Sprint National Standard. Host Society is supporting the City of St. John's, together with the St John's Regatta Committee, on venue capital upgrades and the 2025 Canada Games race course system. Work includes minor capital upgrades within the facility, exterior maintenance work, site equipment additions to accommodate the 2025 games, and the design and use of the lakes race course system for canoe/kayak.
