St. John’s, NL - As St. John’s prepares to host the 2025 Canada Games, today is the first step on this exciting journey with the introduction of the 2025 Canada Games logo. Unveiled for the first time today, this logo will be debuted by representatives of the Host Society, staff and board members who are attending the PEI 2023 Canada Games this month.  

Inspired by a focus group comprised of youth athletes from our province, the 2025 Canada Games logo looks to not only capture the vibrancy of St. John’s, but celebrate all that is unique about the city, the province and of course its people.

Using shapes and colours influenced by the provincial flag and elements central to Newfoundland and Labrador culture, the 2025 Canada Games logo features three unique sections. The red reflects the natural geology of NL’s jagged coastline and iconic landmarks; the blue captures the city’s famous architecture while the gold is an illustration of the shared flames of competition, good will, and passion long associated with the Canada Games. All with its clever use of “SJ”, showing that it is rooted in St. John’s; each section of the logo also represents the sporting podium.

“The Canada Games are the county’s largest multi-sport competition to feature events for able-bodied athletes, as well as athletes with physical and intellectual disabilities. It’s an event that brings a sense of pride to all Canadians,” said Karen Sherriffs, CEO, 2025 Canada Games. “With the 2025 Canada Games logo, we wanted to capture what makes this city so special. We’re thrilled to say our logo is uniquely St. John’s, rooted in the city’s cultural history and designed to inspire the next generation of athletes. We want to thank all three levels of government for their funding and ongoing support.”

“The 2025 Canada Games will be an incredibly important and significant event for our city,” said Danny Breen, Mayor of St. John’s. “The last time that the Canada Summer Games took place in St. John’s was in 1977 and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to play host again. We would also like to acknowledge the support received from our neighbouring municipalities in Conception Bay South, Mount Pearl, Paradise, Portugal Cove-St. Phillips and Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove to help make this possible. This area has always been known and celebrated for our tremendous hospitality, our music, arts, and culture, which will certainly be front and centre as we gear up for the 2025 Canada Games. We can’t wait to welcome our athletes and friends, new and old, to St. John’s.”
