Say hello to Gusty, the official mascot of the 2025 Canada Games.
Gusty is more than just a mascot; they are a symbol of our identity, culture, and heritage. Designed by Michael Tobin from St. Bernard’s Elementary, Gusty pays homage to our province and the significance of cod fishing.
The journey to find the mascot started in November 2023 after the Host Society tasked students in grades 4-6 across Newfoundland and Labrador to submit a design that reflects the province's identity, culture and heritage.
Michael Tobin’s illustration was selected from over 300 entries from schools across the island. His design has transformed into the official 2025 Canada Games mascot now known as “Gusty” the codfish. The name "Gusty" is a gender-neutral adaptation that also alludes to the unique windy weather in the province.
With their vibrant green colour, playful demeanour, and welcoming features, Gusty captures the hearts of people of all ages. The colourful stripes adorning his torso symbolize the spirit of unity and inclusivity that defines the 2025 Canada Games.
As the official mascot of the 2025 Canada Games, Gusty will inspire participants and spectators alike, fostering a sense of unity, pride, and excitement. Gusty’s presence will leave a lasting legacy, inspiring future generations to embrace their heritage and pursue excellence with courage and determination.
Gusty will be available upon request to attend pre-game and Games-time events.
Individuals, sponsors, businesses, etc. are encouraged to submit a Mascot Booking Request Form if they would like the mascot to attend an upcoming event.
