The Aquarena

Built for the 1977 Canada Games, the Aquarena Fitness Centre is located on the campus of Memorial University and is managed by the Works.

Built for the 1977 Canada Games, the Aquarena Fitness Centre is located on the campus of Memorial University and is managed by the Works.

The Works is Newfoundland and Labrador's most comprehensive recreation, fitness, aquatics, and sporting facility that promotes wellness by providing accessible, diverse, and innovative programs and services to the university community and the general public.

Facilities available at the Aquarena include a 65-meter, 8-lane swimming pool, diving boards and towers, two kiddie slides, large public change rooms, showers, and saunas. The facility is undergoing renovations to create an even better experience for Canada Games athletes. 

Capital Construction: 

New pool bulkheads, pool lines, extended 10m platform (to accommodate adding a 3m platform), new 1m and 3m springboards, new media centre/clock, new fixed bleacher seating (with added temporary seating), equipment for warm-up area, enhanced lighting, removal of inner office spaces to open up poolside and seating area, and added 2-story building extension to provide added office/storage space and upper seating accessibility via elevator with accessible washrooms, wash/change room upgrades, and general facility updates.
