2025 Canada Games Launches Volunteer Registration Portal To Celebrate One Year Out

(St. John’s, NL - August 6, 2024) — As the countdown to the 2025 Canada Games begins, the 2025 Canada Games Host Society is inviting individuals to apply to become a Games-time volunteer from August 8-25, 2025. The Host Society, alongside volunteers, athletes and partners celebrated this milestone on Tuesday by launching the volunteer registration portal as part of the Volunteer Program presented by Atlantic Lottery.

In order to host the nation, the Host Society is looking for the enthusiasm, hospitality, and expertise of approximately 5,000 volunteers in a variety of roles to help deliver a life-shaping Games experience for all participants. Over 500 bilingual volunteers will also be recruited to deliver a Games experience in both of Canada’s Official Languages.

“From transportation to food services and minor officials to photographers, there are over 150 different roles and 30,000 hours of volunteer shifts to fill to help us successfully host the 2025 Games,” said Kim Keating and Karl Smith, Co-Chairs of the 2025 Canada Games Board. “The Volunteer Program presented by Atlantic Lottery is crucial in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the Games while creating a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere for all participants.”

Volunteers who commit a minimum of 32 hours during Games time will receive comprehensive training and orientation, experience in the sports and entertainment industry, a volunteer uniform, and an accreditation badge.

“Volunteers are the lifeblood of any major event, providing unwavering dedication and selflessness to give back to local communities and celebrate our culture,” said Patrick Daigle, Atlantic Lottery President and CEO. “Atlantic Lottery is thrilled to connect with our fellow Atlantic Canadians through the Volunteer Program for the 2025 Games and work together to shine a national spotlight on Newfoundland and Labrador.”

In just over a year, the 2025 Canada Games will host over 4,800 athletes, coaches, mission staff, athletes, managers, and coaches, across 19 different sports, for the largest multi-sport event in the country. With a forecasted economic impact of over $120 million, the 30th edition of the Canada Games will be one of the largest events hosted in Newfoundland and Labrador’s history.

The success of the 2025 Canada Games is made possible through the support of the Government of Canada, the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, the City of St. John’s, the Canada Games Council, and partners like Atlantic Lottery.

“In one year, athletes from across the country will come together in St. John’s to compete and celebrate the power of sport. The 2025 Canada Games will showcase the very best of Canada’s talented youth and create opportunities for volunteers to get involved in their community. I am so excited to cheer on the athletes next summer!”
