In keeping sustainability at the heart of the 2025 Canada Games, we’re committed to incorporating waste reduction into everything we do; including the reduction of single-use plastics. In our efforts to do so, we’ve collaborated with Fill It Forward, an organization that promotes reusable bottle use while giving back to charities and communities in need.

By using the Fill It Forward app, athletes, spectators, and volunteers can track their waste reductions and see the environmental impact they’re making. Every time someone refills a reusable bottle and scans the Fill It Forward QR code, a donation of between two and ten cents will be made by the Fill It Forward organization to a charity that focuses on water and food security. Through this initiative, the 2025 Canada Games has already diverted more than 135 lbs of waste and prevented 27 lbs of ocean pollution.

During the 2025 Canada Games from August 8-25, provinces and territories will compete for the Green Cup—a challenge to see who can refill the most water bottles per person.

Fill It Forward stickers will be distributed through sustainability kiosks located at key venues throughout the Games. These stickers will also be given to anyone purchasing 2025 Canada Games merchandise, new volunteers signing up, all athletes, and to visitors of the sustainability centre.
